new single / new website

Edmonton singer/songwriter/musician Amy van Keeken will release In Dreams on Sept. 8 at The Aviary in Edmonton via Scorpio 76 Records, a label she co-founded and runs with her partner Darren Radbourne.  The release of the second single Come With Me will coincide with the launch of her new website Tour dates to follow this fall.

In writing about Come With Me, van Keeken muses on its late summer 70s rock vibes; sunlight on waving leaves, and the beauty of dusk on the North Saskatchewan river:

" I wrote Come With Me as an ode to Edmonton's river valley.  Nature is a really important part of my life and heading to the river with my dogs is how I reset and reconnect.  The song says " I will show you all the magic in this world /  the river is real, the trees are real, the water is real, the dirt is real."  The song wrote itself very quickly and when it was done I knew that I wanted to stack some sweet 70s harmonies on there a la Bread or Fleetwood Mac.  Moving harmonies that suspend and resolve in all the right places.  The finished song to me feels like the perfect late summer anthemic 70s am radio rock.  Full of positivity and the possibility of life.  I'm proud of how it turned out, an homage to the beautiful North Saskatchewan River Valley we are so lucky to have in our city.  Also, it's a reminder to me and acknowledgement that this song (and the whole album) was written on Treaty 6 land.  I am grateful to be here. "

Colleen Brown (Major Love) writes:

" The songs on this album feel at times mysterious and cinematic - shaped by her perfectly distorted Stratocaster - as often as they are simple and direct. Her voice is sweet, warm and clear, like the narrator of a musical dreamscape.  Also, Come With Me is an absolutely perfect pop song. Fleetwood Mac would be jealous. "

James Stewart (Slates, Screaming Targets) writes:

"You could throw on a Carole King or Fleetwood Mac record on either side of In Dreams and no one would know we’d left the era of feathered hair and close harmonies. You could watch van Keeken sharing the stage with nü- cosmic-country troubadours like the Highest Order or Kacy & Clayton and feel on the cutting edge of something. Where song craft and a sense of space is a careful consideration. Space."

In Dreams follows Amy’s 2016 EP, All the Time, which earned two Edmonton Music Awards nominations — Best Folk/Roots Recording and Best Female Artist.  She is also a founding member of folk/roots group The AwesomeHots and experimental rock band Mysticeti.  Along with being a performing musician she's a voice teacher, rock band mentor for vulnerable youth and a broadcaster.

In Dreams will be available on cassette and vinyl (pressed by Edmonton's Moonshot Phonographs).
